The PRCF is fully owned by the City of Powell River. Profits are transferred annually to the City’s Reserve Fund, used only for capital grants to non-profits and
City projects that benefit the community.
City Council controls the funds, following strict by law rules. In 2024, 15% of property taxes supported non-profits. For 2025, the City proposes $2.6M in contributions, about 10% of property taxes.
Since 2006, PRCF has provided $31M in dividends, saving property owners on taxes. The City is saving current funds for major projects like upgrading the Recreation Complex.

Cranberry Lake Fuel Management Project From September 2024 to March 2025, the Ministry of Forests will conduct a fuel management treatment near the Cranberry Lake residential area (22.5 hectares). The project will thin small trees, clear undergrowth, and create a shaded fuel break to reduce wildfire risk, slow fire spread, and improve crew access.
Merchantable timber will be sold to offset costs. Remaining debris will be chipped, removed, or burned under regulation, and smoke may be visible during burning. The project aims to protect the Cranberry Lake community and improve evacuation safety.

Tla’amin Nation Partners with Powell River for Sewage Services Starting in 2025, Tla’amin Nation will connect to the City of Powell River’s new sewage treatment plant while managing its own collection system. This partnership helped secure federal and provincial funding.
The new plant , which replaces four aging facilities, was built to support regional growth, including Tla’amin’s connection. Tla’amin will decommission its 1973 plant, install a pump house, and restore the old site into a community recreational space.
Under a 50-year agreement, Tla’amin will pay sewer fees equivalent to City residents, with reviews every five years. The Nation will also cover its own connection costs and receive staff training at the new facility, strengthening collaboration and sustainability.
